M1905E1 Bayonet Unknown Manufacturer
M1905E1 10” bayonet made from a 16” M1905 Bayonet. This bayonet is very unusual as there are no manufacturer’s marks or marks from the contractor that did the shortening on this bayonet. The only markings on the entire bayonet are the UC stamp on the catch, and a rack number stamped into the left side of the crossguard. Utica Cutlery supplied catches to all manufacturers, so the catch marking does not lend much aid in identifying the maker. Both sides of the ricasso have freckling typical of a forging operation, so it appears unlikely the markings were removed.
This bayonet is in the same condition as received by CMP, and a very heavy coat of grease was removed just before the photos were taken.
This bayonet would make an interesting addition to any collection. Please see all pictures for details before bidding.
