M1 Garand SA WWII 3385827
M1 Garand manufactured by Springfield Armory. This rifle was manufactured in January of 1945. This rifle appears to be in correct configuration with a couple of caveats. Barrel side markings are 1-SA-12-44, TE=2 M=0+. This rifle is as it came to CMP with the exception of the trigger group, as the rifle came with a post war trigger group in it, which was changed out for the group detailed below.
Gas Cylinder has a single punch mark on bottom of bayonet lug, with large punch next to stacking swivel screw, and a single punch mark on top of rear ring. Gas Cylinder Lock is chamfered and lock screw is a P ∆.
Bolt is a -19 SA bolt with B-18 heat lot. Op rod is a flat side unmodified -9.
Rear sight is a type 3 lockbar with unmolested staking. Follower is marked 12, no bevel follower arm, stamped no notch bullet guide. Square front clip latch. -14 SA trigger housing with -9 hammer, stamped trigger guard with milled hook, hammer spring plunger has guide wings. SA-11 Safety.
The stock on this rifle is a mystery, as it appears to be a very nice example of an SA/NFR stock, with a clear ordnance wheel and P proof. However, there is a very faint second P proof lower on the pistol grip that appears to have been sanded. There is no small ordnance wheel evident on the base of the pistol grip, and the only marking under the buttplate is a large capital letter G next to the top screw hole. This stock was on this rifle when it was received by CMP. Handguards appear to be WWII SA and match the stock finish.
This is a very nice example of the US Rifle Cal. 30 M1 as issued in WWII, and would be an excellent addition to any collection. Please see all pictures for details before bidding.
