This is a service grade M1 Garand rifle IHC 4407296.
This is an example of the rarest of the IHC receivers. IHC started at serial number 4440000, but later changed to a serial number block beginning with 4400000. The receivers in this block are all IHC and have LMR barrel dates between 2/53 and 6/53. There are less than twenty known serial numbers within this block, and it isn't known how many exactly were made. All discovered IHC rifles within this block have been in the 4407xxx range. IHC was originally going to stay on the 4400000 block until they caught up to where the 4440000 block has broken off, but decided to only conitinue with the 4440000 block because they were behind on production during that time.
