This is a Remington 700 M40 clone training rifle with a Leupold MK 4 scope assembled by the Army Marksmanship Unit Armorers in custom shop in Ft Benning GA. REM 6257235.

Long-time gun maker Remington introduced their bolt-action "Model 700" rifle series in 1962 to the American public and police forces. It was this rifle that went on to form the basis of the US Marine Corps (USMC) standardized sniper weapon - the "M40" during the Vietnam War. These modified versions were "militarized" by USMC specialists out of the Quantico armory and formally adopted for service in 1966. Several changes throughout her production life yielded a handful of variants - all changes making for a more robust and adaptable battlefield system. Amazingly, the original Model 700 is still in production today while the USMC M40 is still in service - having seen published action in the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, the 1991 Gulf War, the 2001 Invasion of Afghanistan and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.

The bore of this rifle is in good conditon with little to no rust/pitting.

The Crown of this rifle is in good condition.

Markings: This rifle has various "QR" code tags used by Army armorers to track military owned weapons and gear. The barrel has various proof markings, and is stamped 7.62mm and "ODS." "7235" is painted inside of the stock to match the last four of the action serial number.

Other information: The barrel is the original barrel for the action. This rifle comes in a HS precision stock, which comes standard with the aluminum v block bedding. The stock also has an adjustable cheek piece and buttplate. The rifle includes a leupold Mk 4 scope that is a 3.5x - 10x with a 40mm objective. The reticle is an illuminated Mil-Dot, standard with the Mk 4. Also, includes a harris bi-pod.
