Markings & Other information: Air Force Premium Grade (AFPG)

Springfield Armory Air Force Premium Grade (AFPG) M1 Garand produced for USAF shooting teams. Parts are of mixed MFR but are mostly SA. Good to Very Good military finish throughout. BBL is 8/56 SA in 7.62mm and passes headspace on both 7.62mm AND .308 WIN. Stamped NM w/ star annual code (1962) on left side between gas cylinder rings. Stock and handguards have heavy polyurethane finish. Many AFPG specific modifications have been made.

AFPG specific modifications include:

Receiver: Edges of op-rod channel are polished, hole drilled for spring and detent under modified windage knob.

Barrel: Polished on bottom at op-rod contact point. Knurled lower band pad.

Op-Rod: Polished where the barrel makes contact.

Bolt: Inscribed 7.62 on top and 8219 (matching last 4 of SN) on the bottom.  Polished at all contact points

Rear Sight: Aperture is NM 595 w/o hood. Modified windage knob for ½ MOA adjustments w/ spring and detent in rec.

Front Sight: NM 062

Trigger Assy: Front and rear hammer hooks and disconnector modified to change sear engagement/ trigger pull weight. Hammer/ bolt contact points polished

Gas Cylinder: Stamped NM. Rear ring opened to free float. Rear face and ledge modified to reduce contact w/ front handguard

Stock: Glass bedded under REC edges and heel along w/ trigger group contact points. Front ferrule epoxied and screwed in place. 11-67 and last 4 of SN stamped behind ferrule on top.

Handguards: Lower band screwed and epoxied to front handguard. Rear handguard has been trimmed on underside and bedded in two places to minimize contact.
