Mann Accuracy Device
Mann Accuracy Devices (MADs) were used by both US military and commercial companies to test the accuracy of ammunition. MADs have a very thick barrel and were mounted to prevent movement during firing so that the only variable was the ammunition itself.
Receiver Model: Springfield Model 1903
Serial Number: 1522228
Caliber: ACC 7.62
Barrel Length: 22”
Barrel Thickness near muzzle: 1.232”
Barrel Markings: ACC 762-B18
Head Space: Unknown, gauges not available
Other information and markings: Mann Accuracy Device (MAD)
This MAD has a model 1903 receiver and an extremely heavy barrel. The bolt is a complete and serviceable 1903 bolt which has the last 3 digits of the serial number inscribed on it. The trigger and sear are also present and fully functional. The magazine cutoff is also present but is irrelevant due to a plate being installed at the top of the magazine well making it a single shot device. The ACC 7.62 caliber was an experimental round with the casing being slightly shorter than the 7.62 NATO round.
This Mann Accuracy Device has not been test fired or otherwise worked by CMP Personnel. Sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied.
