This rifle was converted to fire 7.62x51mm ammunition at the US Navy’s CRANE small arms facility. A purpose built, 7.62x51mm barrel was installed. This rifle has not been test fired or otherwise worked by CMP personnel.
● It is a later conversion which used a new barrel and did not use a sleeve in the chamber.
● It is still in the wrappings that it was placed in after conversion circa 1966
● The wrapping was opened to verify the serial number
● The inner core of the wrappings contained a protective coating
Will require cleaning and proper assessment before being used.
