M1 Garand Springfield Armory 11361
M1 Rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory. The receiver on this rifle is serial number 11361, which was manufactured in May of 1939. This receiver escaped the 7th round modification, and has the cartridge guide ribs in their original configuration. Receiver has a B3A heat lot. Receiver has probably been refinished, and has some dark shadowing on the left side, probably where it sat on another receiver in the park tank or on the bottom. It, however, has not been lead dipped. This rifle is a service grade with many early WW2 or pre-war parts.
Barrel has an upside down S-A 12-40 marking and gauges TE=1+ M=1 with an excellent bore. Bolt is a D 28287 -1 with a J3 heat lot. Late type firing pin without chrome. Op rod is a modified side-stamped D35382-0 with a slant cut curved side handle. D-35449-SA narrow base gas cylinder without saw cut, front sight has no seal and late screw. Single slot SA lock screw. All gas cylinder parts have matching finish.
Short fork riveted follower rod, early type op rod catch with O accelerator. Double bevel B8869 follower arm, B8875SA narrow window bullet guide, narrow tail SA follower with late slide. -0 clip latch.
Rear sight base is early style with C46001 part number. B-8868-1 aperature, B-8872 cover without ribs. Checkered elevation and windage knobs, elevation cap has no part number. Type 2 lockbar with long pinion, pinion is in the white.
D 28290 trigger housing with slightly modified pad. C 46025 trigger guard with concentric rings. C 46008-1 hammer with extra hole and early hooks. C46015-4 flat top safety. Trigger does not have extra hole or part number. Hammer spring housing is parkerized, hammer spring plunger has guide wings.
Stock is a SA/GHS with ordnance wheel and circled P proof. Stock appears to have been a long channel converted to short. No rebuild stamps are visible. Handguards are WW2 SA, rear handguard has a milled and grooved clip without part number. Milled and grooved lower band without part number.
This rifle, while not correct, would make an excellent addition to any collection, and has some seldom seen parts. Please see all pictures for details before bidding.
