This is a Model 03-A4 rifle with scant stock Remington 4995001.
The barrel of this rifle is an RA barrel dated 12-43, with the proof marking visibly stamped beneath it. There is a "P" stamped on the under side of the barrel. The muzzle gauge and throat gauge are both 3. The bore of this rifle is in good condition with little to no rust/pitting and is a two-grooved barrel. The bolt of this rifle is an A3 bolt. Most of the parts appear to be Remington parts, as the bolt and handle, safety, on/off switch, and stacking swivel all possess stamings of "R." The rear sling swivel is stamped "RP" and the bolt handle has an "8" stamped on it, as well as "4949" and a box stamp. The stock possesses proof markings, as well as some additional stampings in front of the trigger guard. The wood of this rifle is GI wood with some imperfections.
*Information about 03-A3 marking*
Because there was no way of predicting whether or not a M1903A3 being manufactured as an M1903A4 would deliver acceptable accuracy, all M1903A4s were marked, “US Remington Model 03A3,” but the markings were different from standard M1903A3s in that they were offset to the left so they would not be covered by the Redfield scope mount. The idea was that if the rifle wasn’t sufficiently accurate, open sights would be installed and the rifle issued as a standard M1903A3. Thus, there are no M1903A4s marked as such as far as we have been able to determine.
