This is a modified Model 1899 Krag Springfield Armory 228047.

The barrel of this rifle is 22" in length, matching the correct length for a carbine barrel. However, the barrel has been modified to accomodate a newer front sight and longer stock. This barrel could have been a carbine or rifle barrel, but is unknown which now due to the modification. The bore of this rifle is in fair condition with some to little rust and/or pitting; the muzzle gauge is a 2. A stamp of "U" can be found on the lower band, "4" can be found on the loading mechanism, and "2" can be found on the underside of the bolt handle. This rifle has good headspacing, but it is missing the screw that holds the rear sight base onto the rifle.
